Green Chess can be used by the following rules.
1. General
- Green Chess is a website whose main purpose is to allow people playing chess with each other through the internet, and it is also a collection of information about chess and chess variants.
- The information pages, the public games played on Green Chess and the pages for trying out the rules of chess variants can be visited and used by any visitor (human or robot) without registration.
2. Registration
- For playing with other people, registration (signing up) is needed. (A registered user is called player.) During registration, one has to give:
- a valid e-mail address,
- to send the confirmation link of the registration to,
- which must be given at login,
- and also some notifications will be sent to it, depending on the settings of the player;
- a password (twice),
- which must also be given at login,
- which the player is responsible to protect and keep secretly,
- and if the player forgets it, it can be changed using the e-mail address, but it cannot be get back (because Green Chess, for security reasons, does not store passwords directly, only in a so-called hash form);
- and a name,
- which is visible by the other players.
- The player can also give a description and a picture later.
The e-mail address and the password is private, visible to no other user. The name, description and picture can be visible to others: if the profile is set public, any player can see them; if the player's profile is private, only their contacts can see them, i.e. those players who have common games or messages with them.
- One person is allowed to use only one registered profile. (But a player can play with multiple colours in a game.)
- Robots are not allowed to register.
3. Chess
- No external help. Players must use their own knowledge to play with other players on this page. They must not use any external help (e.g. computer, other person or book) to decide which move to make in any actual position.
- Non-moving players lose after a time. Any started game will eventually finish with result (i.e. someone wins, someone loses, or draw). If the player on turn does not move for two weeks, the game finishes and this player loses. Furthermore, players cannot start a new game if they have active games where they are on turn, but did not move for more than a week (but less than two weeks).
In this context, a game becomes "started" upon the completion of the first round, i.e. after each player moved (for multi-move games, after each player moved so many times that is neccessary in a turn). Before that, in the starting phase, any player can quit the game without losing. A game in starting phase has two weeks to become started, otherwise it is closed without result.
- No talk behind the back of other players. In multiplayer (three- or four-player) games, players must not communicate about the game position excluding the other players. In particular in four-player games, teammates must not consult about the strategy without the knowledge of the opponents. If they need, they should communicate in the comment box of that game (in a language that is understood by everyone).
